Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung explains why he dresses like a rebel leader

Barrister Solomon Dalung, the Minister of Sports and Youth Development, has given an insight into why he’s always clad in Khaki uniform and red beret, that’s synonymous with the typical African rebel leader.

This is what an African rebel leader looks like:

Angolan rebel leader Jonas Savimbi sporting his red beretand military uniform

In defence of Barrister Dalung, Nneka Ikem Anibeze, the spokesperson and Special Adviser to the Minister of Sports and Youth Development, said: “My boss is a Comrade and will like to be seen as one.”

“He is a voice for the voiceless who loves to fight for the hopeless and the down-trodden. That is just his style. It also indicates that the struggle continues wherever he finds himself and in whatever position.”

“The Minister is a staunch activist who cares for the welfare of the masses. His wears portray the struggle for the government to provide a better life for the people.

“I trust my boss, he is as constant as the Northern Star. He won’t change regardless of his position. That is simply his style.”

There you have it folks- it’s simply his style… to look like rebel leader.

The Bayelsa State Police Command on Monday, November 30, disclosed that former President Goodluck Jonathan was not attacked in the state.
The state’s Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO), Butswat Asinim, who spoke to The Nation , blamed the rumor of the attack on mischievous rumour peddlers. Asinim revealed that a band of vexed youths wrongly thought the Jonathan’s convoy was one of the governorship candidates’ in the state and followed the convoy, only to discover that the convoy belonged to the ex-president.
The youths, on discovering it was Jonathan’s convoy after following him to his abode in Yenagoa, ran away as security operatives chased and successfully arrested a few of them.
Asinim said: “There was no attack on the former President. The youths mistook his convoy for a governorship candidate engaging in campaigns. “But when they discovered on getting to the entrance of his house in Yenagoa that it was that of the President, they ran away. Some of them were arrested. They did not haul stones at the President’s convoy. They did not attack the convoy and no weapon was found on them.”

Your future smartphone's screen will hardly need any power

As you're likely all too aware, smartphone screens chew up a lot of power -- that's why turning down your brightness frequently does more to save energy than closing an app. If Bodle Technologies has its way, though, your display will be a virtual non-issue. It's developing a phase change material that uses virtually no power, but is still sharp, vivid and visible in bright sunlight. While a lot about the technology remains a secret, it revolves around sending electrical pulses to flexible, transparent layers.
The technology is still early, and Bodle isn't naming the (reportedly large) companies it's talking to about production. However, it could go a long way toward solving the battery woes of modern mobile tech. Your smartphone would be less likely to need a daily recharge, and your smartwatch could last a week on battery without relying on e-paper or other displays that sacrifice quality in the name of longevity. There's more, too: the discoverers promise "smart glazing" that lets windows block heat on a sunny day, or filter out certain kinds of light. Bodle's work may not ship for a long while, but it could be near-ubiquitous when it does.

Fears over rise in horse sex abuse in Switzerland

Animal welfare officials in Switzerland have warned that there are 10,000 people with what they term 'an unnatural sexual interest in horses' in the countryside.
According to new figures, there were a record 1,709 cases of animal cruelty in Switzerland last year, with at least one horse suffering sexual abuse every three days.
Spokesman for the swiss animal rights organisation, Andrews Rüttimann said approximately one in ten of all animal abuse cases involving horses relates to unnatural sexual contact.
Mr Rüttimann said that the most common animal targeted by Swiss zoophiles are dogs, but horses are increasingly popular.

Babangida: "I Will Vote For An Igbo President In 2019 If I Find One"

Ibrahim Babangida, former military president, says he is ready to vote for an Igbo president in 2019.

Speaking with The Interview, a magazine focused on leading professionals and politicians, IBB, as he is fondly called, described the agitation for Biafra republic as a distraction.

“We do not need this distraction now,” he was quoted as saying, adding that “I will vote for an Igbo president in 2019, if I find one.”

He also revisited one of the most controversial issues involving him – the death of MKO Abiola, acclaimed winner of the June 12 1993 election.

He said he recieved the news of his death with shock but without regret.

Responding to the question whether he believed that Abiola died of natural causes, Babangida said: “I should know? I didn’t serve the tea…!”

According to Azu Ishiekwene, managing director of The Interview, the retired general also spoke on his relationship With President MuhammaduBuhari, Vasta Mamman, IBB’s childhood friend who was executed on his orders, and Sani Abacha, former military ruler.

Ishiekwene said in the magazine, which will be out next week, Babangida revealed how Orji Uzor Kalu, former governor of Abia state, arranged a meeting between him and Buhari in 2006.

“One thing you guys in the media want is for us to be exchanging words with each other each time we see,” he reportedly said.

Ishiekwene added that “Babangida spoke on the two ‘most traumatic’ coups during his eight-year regime – the Mamman Vatsa and Gideon Orkar coups – revealing, for the first time, a meeting he had with Vatsa before his trial began.

“The interview also covered Dele Giwa and the C130 Hercules plane crash in Ejigbo, which left 150 military officers dead.”

Cats used as bait to lure tourists back to Brussels

BRUSSELS — After a five-day lockdown prompted by the maximum security alert, Brussels officials are attempting to entice back tourists who may have been scared away by images of soldiers armed with machine guns in the capital's deserted streets. Their secret weapon? Cats.
Brussels shut down its subways and schools while the government asked people to stay away from public places because they might be targeted by extremists in a Paris-style attack. With the lowering of the threat level on Thursday, tourism officials are optimistic that people will return to the Belgian capital, especially with the official opening of the Christmas market on Friday.
Cats became an unofficial mascot of the Brussels lockdown when residents flooded social media with hundreds of kitty pictures this week, after a plea from police not to share information about ongoing raids. Instead of posting updates on where police operations were happening, users tweeted images of cats, including with their paws up, disguised as police snipers and even wearing a bowler hat, the trademark of Rene Magritte, Belgium's greatest surrealist painter.
The police tweeted a picture of a bowl of cat food to thank people for their help and tourism officials are now using images of cats at famous Brussels landmarks in a light-hearted attempt to lure tourists.
At Brussels' Atomium, a nine-sphere structure of an iron crystal that is one of the city's biggest draws, there has only been a trickle of tourists in the last week. Spokeswoman Inge Van Eycken said there was no precedent for closing the attraction due to terrorism fears and said they are relying on some kitty power, among other measures, to bring visitors back.
"We think some cats will help," she said. Van Eycken said Atomium officials are using an altered image of the 1958 World's Fair structure that replaces the nine distinctive metallic spheres with cat heads, though she stressed they have no plans to import real kitties to the attraction.
Hotel bookings reportedly fell by around 20 percent after the security alert was declared. Belgian broadcaster VRT estimated Saturday that the lockdown cost the national economy 52 million euros ($55 million) per day.
Syrian tourist Douri Zaharwi said he was a little apprehensive about coming to Brussels after seeing the heightened security measures but ultimately decided to come.
"I was very sad and shocked," he said, admitting he had second thoughts about his visit. "This country doesn't deserve something like this."
Patrick Bontick, head of Brussels' tourism office, said he hoped tourists would be reassured that authorities had taken all necessary measures to protect the city. He said hotels reported a 20 percent drop in bookings this week and agreed with Van Eycken that cats might be the solution.
"Even in a bad situation, we can also have some humor in Brussels," he said. "We're a surrealistic country," he said, adding he hoped the cats would provide a "friendly" image of the city.
"We have faced four really difficult days, but now it's over," he said. "Life has begun again."

Turning ice into fire. Iceland goes for drama.

The primary thing you have to know is that Iceland is evolving.

Icelander Sveinbjörn Steinþôrsson, a strong fellow in his 40s, grew up trekking on ice sheets here. What's more, he says he's really seen the progressions.

"To begin with treks to the ice sheet, I was, similar to, 14, 15 years of age," Steinþôrsson says. "It was anything but difficult to discover a spot on an icy mass to see just white. You couldn't see the mountain in the north. What's more, you thought you were distant from everyone else on the planet."

Be that as it may, now, when Steinþôrsson goes to those same places and watches out, he sees mountains and exposed area jabbing through.

"So it has melt[ed] a considerable amount, and it is dissolving quick," Steinþôrsson says.

Furthermore, he's not really the special case who's taken note. Freysteinn Sigmundsson, a geophysicist at the University of Iceland, says over his lifespan, he's seen new scene open up.

The dissolving isn't simply influencing Iceland's surface — it's likewise influencing what's going on underground. Also, on this geographically dynamic island, it could prompt more volcanic ejections.

Be that as it may, to clarify, we have to go on a street trip in the good countries of Iceland — over a scene of infertile moving slopes of volcanic shake and tops the shades of dim chocolate and butterscotch.

I jump in a truck that Sigmundsson calls a super jeep. It has altered tires so it can drive crosswise over streams and snow.

We go between a few the greatest ice sheets in Iceland — Vatnajökull and Hofsjökull, for those of you following along. They sprawl out yonder, on either side of us.

At the point when the jeep stops, we set out by foot up a shallow slope. Following a couple of minutes, we quit strolling.

"We have touched base at the site we need to quantify," Sigmundsson says.

It would seem that a common piece of cocoa rock. Yet, mounted to that stone is a metal catch the measure of a coin.

"So now we simply need to get an exactness of a couple of millimeters," Sigmundsson says.

He and his associate move a major tripod into position over the catch underneath. They secure the entire setup with substantial rocks, to keep it from being pushed around by the insane quick winds and overwhelming downpours. On top of the tripod, Sigmundsson roosts an uncommon sort of GPS sensor that measures scope and longitude, as well as vertical position too. The reason is that the ground here is pushing up.

"Iceland is certainly rising," Sigmundsson says.

It's called post-icy bounce back. Consider how substantial all that ice is, pushing down on the Earth. As the warming environment causes the ice sheets to liquefy, that weight facilitates and the ground ascends. Sigmundsson's around here to gauge that change.

"The rate of development is practically identical to the development of your fingernails — around 2-3 centimeters for each year on the off chance that you would not cut them," Sigmundsson proposes.

Truth be told, Iceland's getting higher speedier than anyplace else on the planet. What's more, the rate is quickening.

The purpose behind the speedy pace isn't only the retreating ice sheets. The area here is likewise being pushed up by the volcanic hotspot underneath the Atlantic that initially framed Iceland. As it were, the nation's stopped over a stirring heater.

"It's a blend down there," Sigmunddson says. "I consider it the flame heart of Iceland."

For whatever length of time that individuals have been here, ice sheets have kept that fire heart sensibly contained. However, Sigmundsson's worried that the dissolving ice may trigger an unstable course.

"The weight change affected by the withdrawing ice tops is sufficient to produce additional ... magma inside the Earth," he says. "So we can say that a dangerous atmospheric devation is not just bringing about dissolving of the ice tops, it is creating liquefying of the strong earth here under Iceland."

What's more, this is what that could mean: More volcanic movement, volcanoes ejecting sooner than they would have something else, or all the more capably. It could even mean more ejections of volcanoes still somewhat secured with ice. That is terrible news.

"On the off chance that it is a subglacial emission," Sigmundsson says, "it liquefies huge measures of ice quickly and creates surges."

The impacts of more volcanoes here could likewise be felt universally. Simply recall the emission here of Eyjafjallajökull in 2010 that close down air space crosswise over northern Europe for a considerable length of time.

Presently, nobody has demonstrated yet this chain response from less ice to more volcanic movement really happens. It's additionally conceivable that vanishing icy masses could mean a postponement for some volcanic action. The greater part of that is the thing that Sigmundsson and his group arrive to make sense of.

"We can say Iceland is similar to a lab to consider this," he says. "This applies to the entire world, truly. In the event that you take the more than 1,000 volcanoes on Earth, a large portion of them are ice secured."

So what's found out here will shape our seeing somewhere else. It's a piece of a developing field of exploration into the land effects of environmental change.

For Sigmundsson's group, the work begins by gathering information from every GPS station for two or three days, before moving them to new areas. That is the thing that he and professional Sveinbjörn Steinþôrsson are doing over here.

The objective is to gauge the vertical development over an expansive swath of Iceland — ashore that is unquestionably alive.

"[It's] not only the area staying there — it [is] a live thing," Steinþôrsson says. "Also, it move[s], and it's relaxing."

Also, when Iceland breathes out, it might simply move paradise and Earth.

Pope Francis celebrates Mass for martyrs in Uganda

Pope Francis has celebrated Mass in front of an audience of
hundreds of thousands of Ugandan faithful.
He spoke at a Catholic shrine dedicated to Christians martyred for their faith in the 19th Century, on the second stage of his three-country trip to Africa.
The Mass marks the 50th anniversary of the martyrs'
canonisation.
There were huge cheers as the Pope began the open-air
ceremony at Namugongo, near Kampala.
It was where many of the 45 Anglican and Catholic martyrs
were burned alive.
Their execution was ordered by a king worried about the spread of Christianity.
Thousands of pilgrims braved rain to spend the night holding a vigil near the martyrs' shrines and there were long lines of pilgrims still trying to access the shrine as Pope Francis addressed the crowds on Saturday morning.

Why ‘it makes sense’ for Buhari to be Petroleum Minister – Oshiomhole

Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has said President Muhammadu Buhari, is justified in appointing himself as Petroleum Minister.
Oshiomhole said so many things had gone wrong with the ministry and the Nigerian National Petroleum Commission (NNPC), hence, ‘it makes sense for the President to take charge’.
In an interview with Punch, the governor said Buhari’s supervision of the ministry would ensure transparency and accountability.
“When things are tough, Nigerians often say ‘let this particular agency come directly under the supervision of the President.’
When you recognise that too many things went wrong with the Nigerian National Petroleum Commission and that oil remains the main stay of our economy for now and perhaps for the foreseeable future, it makes sense for the President to say that he would take charge of it. He has not broken new grounds; a President before him has done that.” “I think what should bother Nigerians is ensuring that the
NNPC breaks from the past, that it is now being managed efficiently and that it subjects itself to international best practices in corporate governance and so on.
Nigerians should also know that the President’s supervision of this sector leads to greater transparency, greater efficiency and greater confidence in the Nigerian oil sector. I think that’s what matters. But sometimes, Nigerians like to trivialise issues.”

Why Shoprite in Ikeja was shut down

The Lagos State Safety Commission has shut down one of Shoprite’s stores located at the Ikeja Shopping
Mall, Lagos.
The commission says the reason for the drastic action is as a result of the shopping outlet’s breach of safety laws.
Officials of the commission stormed the store on Friday, ordering everyone to leave before they sealed off the premises, and placed a seal order at the entrance.
The seal order notice says: “Sealed, this premises has been sealed following the breach of safety law. This seal must not be broken. For further enquiries, contact the Commission.”
According to P.M NEWS, customers unaware of the new development were left stranded outside the store’s shut doors.
Though the Director General of the commission is yet comment on the closure, it is believed that Shoprite was shut down for failing to abide by the safety laws of the state.
An investigation was said to have been carried out by the commission before Shoprite was closed on Friday.
It was also revealed that the commission discovered items on the shelves, that would expire in a couple of weeks.

When #ThankGodItsFriday ends in death and tears

It was a typical #ThankGodIt'sFriday night for the crew. The week had been a good one. Temi just received his appointment letter from one of the new generation banks after four years of intense job search. I just got my first pay cheque from the biggest endorsement deal I ever scored. Certainly, there was more than enough reasons to turn up. Bottles kept piling up and soon enough we introduced a drinking game. Simply put, who will be the last man standing. Then came the Tequila shots. The first round, second round, third, fourth, fifth, sixth and soon enough some of us started giving up.
Not Temi though, he was set to win this competition like his job depended on it. At about 4am, the night out was winding up and gradually each of us had to leave.
Temi was obviously drunk. I offered to drive him home but no, he wouldn’t have anyone drive his mum’s favorite car. So I escorted him to the car and he managed to collapse into the driver’s seat. He stared at me like he wanted to
say something but simply shook his head and drove off.
That was the last I saw Temi. I woke up the next morning by a call from Temi’s aunt. ‘Prince, your nwanne is dead’. These exacts words stunned me. Words I will never forget.
Drunk driving is one of the leading causes of automobile accidents in Nigeria, yet this is one issue the society has treated with kid’s gloves. The driver who drives under the
influence is not just a menace to himself and passengers but to other road users. Various measures must be taken to curb this menace.
Sales of alcohol in motor parks should be completely prohibited by relevant agencies and government.
There is an urgent need for clubs and bars to ensure cab services and/or drivers are provided for customers whom are visibly drunk. This should be compulsory.
Road officers and police needs to be sensitized and provided with devices that could detect the level of alcohol
consumption of drivers by measuring their Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC). Breathalyzers are a typical example of such devices. Our laws on drunk driving need an urgent review and amendment. There is a need to define legally what constitutes as drunk driving. This quagmire constitutes a bottle-neck in the success of the various campaigns against drunk driving in Nigeria.
The law needs to spell at the concentration of alcohol in one’s system should be considered ‘drunk’ and otherwise not fit to drive. Different countries have their blood alcohol concentration (BAC) optimum at different levels. In Russia
it’s a 0.04%, Ukraine has a level of 0.03% while the United States and Romania has theirs set at 0.08.
Finally there is a need to sensitize our citizens on the very many negative impacts of drunk driving. We have lost too much human capital to this menace.

19-yr-old Pastor Impregnates Female Church Founder

A 19-year-old pastor in Zimbabwe, Frank Emmanuel, has caused a stir after he allegedly impregnated the founder of his church, Bernadette Nyanga, 26, and snatching her from her husband, reports Masasi News.

The woman who is the owner of Hope and Life Ministries based in Dangamvura, has been married for two years to Leslie Mparutsa, but has been having sexual relationships with her young pastor and is currently carrying his baby.

But the 19-year-old pastor has maintained that he did not get another man's wife pregnant because the woman and her husband have been separated and according to him, she was free to date him.

“I am not dating someone’s wife. The two (Bernadette and Leslie) broke up and I don’t know why he is continuously pestering her.

If you want to get the truth, call Bernadette on her NetOne line. Leslie is out to tarnish my image as a man of God as well as that of Bernadette who recently founded her own ministry.

She is a woman of God and some people are misleading Leslie to tarnish our image. I cannot say anything on the alleged affair, why can’t you phone Bernadette?” Emmanuel told reporters

But the bitter husband is not having any of that, accusing Emmanuel of being the cause of the break down of his marriage.

“I have lost my wife of two years to a young pastor in Dangamvura, Frank and the two are spending most of their time together. At one time, I confronted Frank to leave my wife alone, but he told me that Bernadette had lied to her that she had divorced me.

The two continued with their affair. I arrived home last Tuesday night from church and discovered that my wife was not at home. I waited for her return in vain and decided to look for her at Frank’s house in Area 3.

It was around midnight and I was told that he had left and was now staying in Founders area of Nyamauru also in Dangamvura,” he said.

Leslie said followed the two to their new love nest and allegedly caught up with the lovebirds who were walking in the company of Frank’s three body guards.

“The body guards confronted me and told me to leave the two alone. They warned me never to confront their prophet again. I left them and decided to make a police report at Dangamvura Police Station since I had been threatened by them as well as Bernadette’s text messages.

I was advised by the police that it was a civil matter. I was actually forced by her late mother to marry Bernadette. My late mother-in-law bankrolled my wedding in December 2013 after I had told her that I did not have the resources for such an occasion.

She said I would repay her later, but unfortunately, she passed on before I paid her money back. My two year marriage with Bernadette failed to produce any children and I later discovered that my wife was taking birth control tablets. What is paining me most is her claims that she is now carrying Frank’s baby, yet our marriage is still to be annulled,” the agrieved Mparutsa said.

EFCC Arrests ‘pastor’ For N200m Fraud

Press statement from EFCC...

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested one Jonathan Ibinabo Alatoru, a self-acclaimed pastor and Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Chemtronics Nigeria Limited, for conspiracy, forgery and obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of N200 million. The suspect, who had earlier jumped the administrative bail granted him by the Commission, was arrested by operatives of EFCC in a sting operation on Thursday, November 26, 2015, in Abuja.

The 55-year-old suspect had been awarded a contract by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Abuja for the construction of a skill acquisition centre at Igualeba, Orhiomwon LGA, in Edo State, to the tune of N1.7billion. The contract, which was supposed to be completed within a year, was, however, terminated in 2011 when he could not complete the structure 18 months after. However, the suspect allegedly approached Sterling Bank Plc with some documents purported to have emanated from the Ministry to secure a N200 million bank facility. In fulfillment of the requirements to obtain the bank facility, the suspect allegedly presented both the Certificate of Occupancy, C of O, of a property located in the G.R.A., Ikeja area of Lagos and another mortgage agreement letter as collateral in 2012. The investigation, however, revealed that both documents belong to the late Vice-Admiral Babatunde Elegbede, a former military Governor of Cross Rivers State, who died in 1994. According to the complainant, the suspect also allegedly presented a forged domiciliation payment letter, stating that the proceeds of the contract should be remitted to the bank for the servicing of the loan. It was also discovered that the suspect allegedly connived with one Ndubuisi Egbe Unah, who is currently facing trial before a Federal High Court, Abuja, and some staff of the bank to perpetrate the alleged fraud. The suspect will soon be charged to court.

The organiser, who asked to remain anonymous, said the bomber ran into the crowd before he could be spotted and detonated his explosives.

“He was dressed in black like everyone else. His accomplice was initially arrested and confessed they were sent by Boko Haram,” he added.

“They were part of the young men abducted by Boko Haram in (the Borno state town of) Mubi last year and taken to Sambisa Forest where they were given some military training.

“They were sent to Kano 11 days ago and kept in a house specifically for this attack.”

The bomber detonated his explosives after realising his accomplice had been arrested, the organiser added.

Will Smith might run for the United States presidency

Apparently, Kanye West inspired quite a few people when he declared a few months ago, that he would run for the United States Presidency in 2020.
One of them is multi-talented star, Will Smith, who has said he might be ready to embark on a career in politics.
“As I look at the political landscape, I think that there might be a future out there for me,” Smith told The Hollywood Reporter on its “Awards Chatter” podcast series.
“They might need me out there,” he added. Smith said in the interview he always felt the need to contribute positively to the environment around him which he is currently doing through his acting and music career.
However he stated that he believes he hasn’t done enough and therefore he needs to take it a step further.
He said: “I’m a climber, so if I see a mountain, I have to climb it. I’m not a camper; I don’t like hanging in one
place too long. So I think, at this point, I’m elevating my ability to be useful in the world.”
“I think that that’s what my grandmother always hoped, that I would make myself useful to people in this lifetime.”
“You know, as I look at the political landscape, I think that there might be a future out there for me. They might need me out there. This is the first year that I’ve been incensed to a level that I can’t sleep, you know? So I’m feeling that at some point, in the near future, I will have to lend my voice to the conversation in a somewhat different way.” Who knows? Will Smith might just be Kanye West’s competition come 2020.

‘I don’t know if Prince Audu was poisoned’ – Dino Melaye

Senator Dino Melaye ‘cannot say’ for sure, if the deceased candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the Kogi State 2015 governorship election, Prince Abubakar Audu, was poisoned.
Melaye said on Wednesday, during a show on African Independent Television, that only God knows if foul play was responsible for the death of Prince Audu.
“I cannot say he was poisoned. I will not say what I do not know. God is the only one who sees everything. I can only weep. For him, it was the end of a cycle,” he said.
The senator representing Kogi-West, also said it was impossible that Audu stole N11billion from the state’s coffers, as was widely believed.
Melaye described Audu as down to earth person and a friend of the people, adding that he built all the existing institutions in Kogi state.
“How can a man who received N17bn in less than four years steal N11bn? This was a man who paid pensioners, did not owe workers and carried out a big infrastructural development in the state. What has the EFCC been investigating since 2003? It is all politics. Audu never stole Kogi’s money.
This was a man who built Kogi State University, Kogi State Polytechnic, Obajana Cement Factory and signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Dangote Cement.
Audu built all the institutions that exist in the state today.” “Audu was the only politician who was down to earth in Kogi State. I was his closest political associate. He loved his people. He was a friend of the downtrodden.
It will be difficult for any other governor to connect with the people like Audu did. A man who was ready to listen to bean cake sellers and cobblers was a man to be taken seriously.’’

How A Police Corporal Shot And Killed His Wife.

The one caveat that comes with owning a gun is that the metal companion has no friend. No matter the cause or reason, the one thing the gun does and knows how to do best is fire a bullet to its target or a stray, and get its job of harm, pain and possibly death, done.

This police officer probably wasn’t privy of this information when claimed innocence over the accidental discharge of his service weapon upon his beloved wife, whom he came home to with no fiasco, no fight, no squabble- just good old home.
Corporal Yinka Oloko, returned home to his rented apartment in Egebda on Tuesday evening by 10pm, and started to undress in the bedroom, with his wife sitting on the bed.
The corporal, while removing his pistol from the holster, was said to have mistakenly fired his wife on the lap. Despite help from neighbors, Oloko’s wife reportedly died before they got to the hospital.
Regardless of his desperate plea, Oloko has been arrested and detained while the case is being investigated at the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba.
“The policeman has been arrested, and handed over to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, SCID, for investigation. The incident involved him and his wife. It was a sort of a discharge rather than a fight. Investigation is still ongoing,” says the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joe Offor.

These guys are really taking their Biafra craze too far!

These guys are really taking their Biafra craze too far! The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, has directed all Igbo living outside Igbo land to start returning home and re-establish their businesses and investments in the South-East.

Decrying what he described as the nonchalant attitude and insensitivity of many Igbo people residing in the northern and western parts of the country to Biafra, the MASSOB National Director of Information, Uchenna Madu, said “we have decided and promise to provide adequate security for lives and property in Igboland.
“MASSOB shall defend Igboland with our blood, valour and enthusiasm. It is our unflinching service to our father land.
“MASSOB has vowed to stop kidnapping, armed robbery and other criminal tendencies in Igbo land because there is no place in Nigeria like Igbo land.
“Nigeria is a state where others are first class citizens but treat the Igbo as second class citizen, a state where others are born to rule but treat the Igbo as perpetual outcasts, a state where state policies deliberately deny Igbo land critical developmental infrastructure.
“Nigeria has vowed to continue to be a state where prejudice, tribalism, exclusion and hate are elevated while nation building is ignored, a state where it seems the only logic for unity is to share oil resources and not on the basis of consent, mutual respect, fraternity and brotherhood.
“Today in Nigeria, true nationhood has remained elusive to Nigeria which still remains in perpetual strife and ever increasing crisis since independence.
Thëse undeniable realities are the reasons the Nigeria state is afraid of Biafra which represents the truth they cannot legitimately counter.”
But reacting to the spate of protests by pro-Biafra groups, the Ohaneze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, dissociated itself from the activities of the agitators who have been protesting in many cities in the South East and South –South.
Ohaneze said “Biafra died in 1970 with the surrender by General Philip Effiong, to the Nigerian troops.”

Saudi Arabia Sentences Palestinian Poet To Death For Renouncing Islam

Saudi Arabia has sentenced a Palestinian poet to death for renouncing his Muslim faith. The execution order was handed down to AshrafFayadh, 35, by a judge on Tuesday, The Guardian reported.
Adam Coogle, Middle East researcher for Human Rights Watch, told Reuters he had read the trial documents, which make it “very clear he has been sentenced to death for apostasy.”
Fayadh was arrested by the country’s religious police in 2013. In 2014, he was tried in court and sentenced to four years in prison and 800 lashes. But the verdict was appealed, and another judge handed Fayadh the death sentence.
While Saudi Arabia is a major U.S. ally against violent Islamic extremists, its justice system is based on an extreme interpretation of Sharia law.
Fayadh’s conviction appears to be based on evidence from a witness for the prosecution who said he heard the poet cursing God, Islam’s Prophet Mohammad and Saudi Arabia, and on the contents of a poetry book he wrote in 2008, according to Reuters.
Fayadh’s supporters say, however, the government is punishing him for publishing a video that shows the religious police, known as the mutaween, publicly lashing a man in the city of Abha, southeastern Saudi Arabia.
The poet was a leading figure in the country’s contemporary art scene and had curated shows in Jeddah and at the Venice Biennale before he was arrested, The Guardian said.
His Instagram account, last updated more than two years ago, shows a man with a playful sense of humor, and a love for art, animals, sunsets and American music.
“I was really shocked but it was expected, though I didn’t do anything that deserves death,” Fayadh told the The Guardian after his sentencing.

‘I called the Igbinedions thieves and they’ve not denied it’ – Oshiomhole

Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole says he’s not
afraid of the Esama of Benin Kingdom, Chief Gabriel
Igbinedion and his son, former Governor Lucky Igbinedion.
Oshiomhole also reiterated his claim that father and son
looted the state’s coffers and also converted government
properties for personal use.
The governor spoke in Benin on Monday, when thousands
of women in white attire marched on the streets,
demanding an apology from Chief Igbinedion to the
residents.
Addressing the women, Oshiomhole said he would be
ashamed to speak in public, if two of his children were
convicted for corruption and money laundering.
He said: “Chief Igbinedion and his son dragged the Oba (of
Benin) to court. Have you forgotten? If an old man is a
thief and I called him a thief, did I disgrace him?
“They are putting your money in their pockets and they
say they are rich. They sold government houses to
themselves.
“Should I be quiet to what is wrong? I only reveal what
they stole in government and they have not denied it. I will
not respect a thief. I will not worship a thief, if everybody
else worships the thief.”

Church Member Steals Pastor’s Car

A supposed convert who went to a church in search of a wife material has ended up stealing the vehicle of a pastor of the church, Crime Reports has gathered. The culprit’s deed was exposed after he was arrested by the Oyo State Police Command recently.

It was learnt that the principal suspect, Wasiu Adetunji Lawal, led a criminal gang which stock in trade was to obtain cars from their owners under false pretences, only to divert and sell them. Other members of the gang named by the police include Wasiu Adetunji Lawal, Isiaka Babatunde, Jamiu Rahman, Wasiu Adelani and Abdulazeez Ahmed.

Disclosing the arrest to Crime Reports recently during a press briefing, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Leye Oyebade said that Lawal went away with the Toyota Sequia SUV belonging to one Pastor John Akorede Aderounmu under the pretext that he wanted to carry out some repairs, only to abscond with the vehicle.

“The suspect sold the vehicle to a criminal receiver in Kaduna State without the knowledge and the consent of the owner, and refused to respond to the owner’s calls when he demanded for the return of his vehicle.” Oyebade stated, adding that this led to police investigation into the whereabouts of Lawal and the vehicle.

The police commissioner further said that when Lawal was arrested, he confessed to have sold the vehicle, leading to the arrest of other suspects. Exhibits recovered from the gang include a Toyota Sequiao SUV, 13 vehicle particulars, nine forged Customs paper, number plate with registration number BH 299 BKA and other documents.

Oyebade said that his command was not unmindful of the fact that crime wave usually increases whenever the end of the year is approaching, adding: “This is why we have put various security strategies in place to curtail the activities of criminals within the state before, during and after the yuletide. It was the positive result of the strategies that led to the arrest of these criminals.”

In an interview, the suspect, Lawal, told Crime Reports that it was the victim who asked him to sell the vehicle and he had given him an additional N400,000 to add to the N800,000 which he realised from the sale, for him to buy a new one for the victim who believed his claim that he was a dealer.

He confirmed that Pastor Aderounmu was calling him but he could not respond because of a problem he did not disclose.

But the victim, Aderounmu, told Crime Reports that “the suspect (Lawal) came to our church, looking for a lady to marry. After a while, he got close to me. One day, he said he wanted to help me repair something in my car. He had earlier said that he was an auto dealer.

“He disappeared with my vehicle for three months before it was recovered from the person he sold it to in Kaduna. Before his arrest, I called him severally but he always told me that he would soon bring the car, unknown to me that he had already sold it. I never instructed him to sell the car as he claimed.”

Benin Republic Invades Kwara, Nigeria Takes Over 16 Border Villages.

Tension in Kwara over Invasion of 16 Villages by Benin Republic

How could Nigeria let herself be insulted be a "small country" such as Benin Republic, this is a sign that the government of Nigeria cannot safeguard the country's territorial integrity. Below is a critical report..

Palpable tension has enveloped the border town of Okuta in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State over the alleged invasion of 16 villages by the authorities of Benin Republic.

Already, the authorities of the neighbouring country have gone ahead to construct Gerdarmes Office (Police station) in the affected Nigerian communities and also hoist their national flag at the affected Nigeria villages.

The development, according to THISDAY investigations, has disregarded the boundary delimitation of 1914 between Britain and France which the two countries had respected.

The affected Nigerian villages, according to THISDAY checks, include‎ Ogomne, Bwin, Gandasunon, Kpuru and Woru Wuren Kparu.

Others are Ajuba,1, Ajuba 2, Saka Yeruman Kparu,Monta, Dotin Kparu,Halidun Kparu, Yakubun Kparu, Sonsi,Gunosani, Alhaji Kparu,Yodo Mankparu and Simen Kparu.

It was learnt that the development has also led the Okuta Emirate Council to order the people of Yakparu axis to dismantle of the Beninoire flag hoisted at Nigerian villages and the flag is currently at the custody of the emirate council in the town.

At this juncture, Nigerians cannot help but conclude that Benin Republic is in Alliance with Boko Haram, or worst case, is sponsoring The Boko Haram Sect, but to what End?

Boko Haram Overtakes ISIS As World’s Deadliest Terror Organisation-IndependentUK

Boko Haram has overtaken Isis as the world’s most deadly terrorist organisation, according to a new report.

The Nigerian-based terror group, also known as Islamic State’s West’s Africa province (ISWAP), was responsible for 6,644 deaths in 2014.

In comparison, Isis is believed to have killed 6,073 people in the same period. Boko Haram pledged allegiance to the group, also known as the Islamic State, in March of this year.

Isis has certainly sought - and achieved - global notoriety since it announced its creation of a caliphate across Syria and Iraq in June 2014.

It has its own media arm which pumps out propaganda videos and messages to either inspire supporters or strike fear into those it regards as enemies with graphic footage glorifying executions and torture. It has also claimed responsibility for the most recent terror attacks in Paris and Egypt, where a plane containing 229 was downed.

Boko Haram carries out most of its atrocities in north Africa. Over the past year, Nigeria witnessed a 300 per cent rise in fatalities from terror acts to 7,512. This is the largest increase in terrorist-caused deaths ever recorded by any country, and is predominantly down to Boko Haram’s expansion.

In 2013, Nigeria ranked fifth in terms of the highest levels of deaths, but moved to second last year.

While increased use of explosives and bombs – thanks to training from other terrorist outfits – has characterised more recent Boko Haram attacks, the majority of attacks remain armed assaults using machine guns.

The data, published in the third edition of the Global Terrorism Index, was produced by the Institute for Economic and Peace, and drawn from data collected by the Global Terrorism Database (GTD), collated by the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism.
