THE GOVERNOR'S FAILED PROMISE
"You get what you deserve", it's an old saying.
One that's survived the years because it's true, For the most part, but not for everyone.
Some get more than they deserve, because they believe they are not like everyone else.
They believe that the rules, the ones people like me and you, the people that work and struggle to live our lives, just live - don't apply to them, they believe that they can do anything and live happily ever after. while the rest of us suffer.
They do this from the shadows. shadows that we cast with our indifference, with the pervasive lack of interest in anything that doesn't directly affect us. Shadows that we cast with our ethnic diversity and greed. Or maybe it is just the shadow of weariness, of how tired we are. Struggling to be the leaders of tomorrow. Tomorrow which no longer exist because of those who take more than they deserve, and they keep taking until all that is left for the rest of us, is a wish of how it was meant to be. A once glorious dream, a dream in vogue before cultism found rancor in brotherhood. Before corrupt leaders decided we didn't matter anymore, but we do.You and I, the people of Benin City, the people of Edo State.
There are people in Benin City who doesn't share this believe, they have been among us for quite some time. You've seen them in Television, you've heard them talk, and they even provide services for us all. They have stayed in the open, because they believe they are gods, These people must no longer be allowed to operate in the open, and the present chief architect of their actions is Governor Adams Oshiomhole.
A supposed people's governor that so much was expected of has turned out to be the sponsorer of "Agberu" (touts) in Benin City.
Before the rule of Governor Adams Oshiomhole, it was no secret that we had touts in benin city exploiting the ordinary bus driver who is struggling to feed not just himself, but his household, but Adams Oshiomhole has not just succeeded in empowering touts in benin City but has provided a training ground for future touts.
Adams Oshiomhole has empowered bodies like the Akugbe venture to exploit bus drivers, and the most heart breaking one is "Chairman Chopin Money", for crying out loud, what is "Chairman Chopin money", but an act to continually enrich "touts lord", and foster cultism and corruption in Benin City.
Conclusively, as it had been rightly observed that most of the projects in semi urban Areas has been abandoned e.g Ogida barracks thereby endangering not just property but lives.
The people of Benin City must remember that there will be times when we are powerless to injustice, But there must never be a time when we fail to protest.
